Advancing Universal Health Coverage Through Research

Universal Health Coverage is an essential element of the Sustainable Development Goals, but in our rapidly changing world, reaching the poorest and most vulnerable is an increasing challenge. So often, new tools and innovative solutions to controlling and eliminating infectious diseases of poverty do not have the impact they promised, due to roadblocks to delivery. Creating the evidence to provide solutions to implementation problems is a powerful way to bring research into the service of UHC. John will discuss the issues in light of TDR's achievement in this area and the intentions of the newly created Research for Health Department at WHO.Professor John Reeder is Director of the UNICEF / UNDP / World Bank / World Health Organization Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases. Reeder is also Director of the newly established WHO Department of Research for Health in Geneva. John's research is focussed on malaria.John's previous roles include Director of the Centre for Population Health at the Burnet Institute, Melbourne, Australia, and Director of the Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research. For further information: Dr Michael Joseph, Business Development Manager - Health and Medical TechnologyResearch Support and Development Office (RSDO)Brunel University Londonmichael.joseph@brunel.ac.uk
