Industry experts are invited along to these BIC Breakfasts to share insights and swap ideas.   The sessions cover a specifc topic each time and are a great place to network and share experiences / contacts with the rest of the book industry and other industries too.   Each session will focus on one of the following supply chain areas: - Physical- Digital- Data- Libraries   THE SEPTEMBER 2019 BREAKFAST SESSION Reach Out: Achieving Discoverability for Diverse & Inclusive Books Sponsored by:  According to statistics compiled by The Bookseller, of the thousands of titles published in 2016 in the UK, fewer than 100 books were written by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) authors. Again, in the UK in 2017, The BookTrust reported that fewer than 6% of children’s authors and illustrators were from BAME backgrounds and that white children’s books creators had around twice as many books published compared to those of colour.   Covering ethnicity, gender, sexuality, social mobility and disability, this BIC Breakfast will explore how the book industry can take steps to improve discoverability for diverse and inclusive books. Attend this session to learn about the ways in which the industry is beginning to embrace and nurture diverse and inclusive authors, audiences and books, and facilitate their discoverability.   We will hear from Andrew Isabirye about Penguin Random House’s Diversity Working Group and how its work has led to the updating of Thema – the internal subject classification scheme – for diversity and inclusion; Chris Saynor of EDItEUR will explain how Thema can help publishers and booksellers to find the right audience for their book; and Meera Ghanshamdas of Moon Lane Ink CIC will provide an overview of what booksellers can do to promote diverse and inclusive books, and the information they require from publishers in order to do so.   This BIC Breakfast will be of interest to all publishers, booksellers, data aggregators, authors and others.    THE HOST  Alaina-Marie Bassett, Business Manager, BIC THE SPEAKERS Andrew Isabirye, Data Scientist, Penguin Random House Chris Saynor, Standards Editor, EDItEUR Meera Ghanshamdas, Manager, Moon Lane Ink CIC     PLEASE NOTE Spaces are limited at all BIC Breakfasts and are allocated on a first-to-register basis.   If for any reason you are unable to attend this event or the event is sold-out, please be aware that it is now possible to watch our BIC Breakfasts via Twitter.
