      Louis Theroux in Conversation

Much-loved documentarian Louis Theroux reflects on a weird, wonderful journey through two decades of groundbreaking television, in conversation with Adam Buxton.

Join Theroux as he looks back on some of the larger-than-life characters he has encountered along the way, reflects candidly on some of the biggest challenges he has faced and discusses what draws him back, again and again, to offbeat corners of contemporary life.

He touches on everything from his TV show Weird Weekends and being blindsided when the revelations about Jimmy Savile came to light, to journeying into the strange and surreal world of Scientology and his most recent intimate series of BAFTA-winning Altered States documentaries.

As a fledgling journalist, Theroux made his first appearance on screen in 1994, presenting a segment on apocalyptic religious sects for Michael Moore’s TV Nation. With his inimical combination of self-deprecation and insight, he went on to create an award-winning documentary style that has seen him immersed in worlds as diverse as racist US militias and secretive pro-wrestlers, the violent gangs of Johannesburg and extreme drinkers in London.

In 20 years of working, he has spent time with inmates at San Quentin prison and Miami jail; gambled with high rollers at a Las Vegas mega-casino; stalked game with trophy hunters on South Africa's wild animal farms; and spent time getting to know dementia patients and their families in Phoenix, Arizona.

Adam Buxton is a British comedian, actor and director, appearing in films such as Hot Fuzz, Stardust and Son of Rambow, as well as a variety of TV shows in the UK. He is the host of The Adam Buxton Podcast, and, along with lifelong friend Joe Cornish, he is also one half of award-winning TV, radio and podcast duo Adam & Joe who have worked together since 1995. He is currently working on book containing humorous essays and stories about his life and career thus far.
